Rappaport Energy Consulting of Ridgefield will receive a $149,900 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a geothermal-solar thermal pilot plant on the Oregon Institute of Technology campus in Klamath Falls, Ore., Acting Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman announced Thursday.
The grant is one of 88 awarded to small businesses in 28 states to develop clean energy technologies with a potential for commercialization and new jobs. The awards total more than $16 million. Other Washington companies receiving grants are Olympic Research, Inc., of Port Townsend, which will receive $221,880 to develop high performance sealing plugs for use in deep borehole disposal of nuclear waste; and Forest Concepts, of Auburn, which will receive $150,000 to develop technologies that improve biofuels conversion systems. No Oregon companies received grants.
