Two second half goals not only got the Columbia River boys soccer team a 2-0 win over Prairie on Friday, it earned the Chieftains the top seed from the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League.
Columbia River finished the 3A GSHL season tied with Mountain View, both 7-1-2, but by virtue of River’s 1-0-1 record over the Thunder, the top seed for the playoffs goes to the Chieftains.
Brian Wright scored off an assist from Zach Perron about 11 minutes into the second half, and then Zach Pizot netted a penalty kick to seal the win.
Goalkeeper Ian Gorham had three saves in the shutout.
As the third place team in the 3A GSHL, Prairie (5-4-1) will face No. 4 Fort Vancouver (5-5-0) in a loser-out match on Tuesday.

SOCCER: Luis Marcial scored both goals for Hudson’s Bay in the Eagles 2-1 win over Fort Vancouver.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: Camas’ Alexa Efraimson won the 1,500 meters at the Nike Jesuit Relays in Beaverton, Ore., in 4:22.33, improving her winning time in the same meet last season by a second.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: Camas’ Grayson Anderson won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches at the Nike Jesuit Relays.
SOFTBALL: Katie Schroeder pitched a one-hitter and had nine strikeouts, and was perfect through four innings as Camas topped Evergreen 10-0. Erin Tauscher hit her fifth home run in her last five games.
SOFTBALL: Michelle Brincefield struck out 10 and drove in four runs, and Madison Anthony went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBI in Skyview’s 14-7 win over Heritage.
GIRLS TENNIS: The top four singles seeds reached the semifinals of the 4A district tournament at Club Green Meadows. No. 1 Akari Baba of Prairie has yet to drop a game and will face No. 4 Jayne Piboonvarangoon from Columbia River. No. 3 Katherine Cook of Prairie will playing No. 2 seed Lisa Karnofski of Kelso.
The top four doubles teams also advanced. Mountain View’s Milla Benedetti and Emma Ravio, the top seed, will be playing Prairie’s Kiara Kindler and Shannon Sterling. Columbia River’s Alex Wilmington and Ashley Osler will face Columbia River’s Sarah Case and Camille Mitchell.
Top three singles and doubles teams advance to bi-districts in Tacoma on May 17-18.
SOCCER: Anthony Dizon scored two goals as Woodland beat Stevenson 3-0 in a Class 1A league tiebreaker. With the win, the Beavers earn a berth to the 1A district playoffs and will travel to face Elma today.
