Sounds like summer: Musical acts of every stripe headed to Clark County

Expect a rockin’ music season in Clark County this summer.

With pop, country, metal and classic rock acts all heading to the area, there’s a little something for everyone.

“I think we’re poised to have one of our biggest years this year,” said Andy Holland, marketing manager at the Sleep Country Amphitheater. “We’re really excited about Jason Aldean and Maroon 5 in September. Rush is a big draw. All the concerts, really, should be great shows.”

So far, 11 acts are booked at the amphitheater, including two that will play in conjunction with the Clark County Fair: Alan Jackson and The Avett Brothers.

The fair is also bringing back three acts to the grandstands this year after a four-year hiatus, said Jim Beriault, a spokesman.

“One of the things we tried over the past few years was to move everything (musical) to the amphitheater,” Beriault said. “That worked well for the big acts, but we found we really needed a balance, and people have been telling us they missed seeing acts in our grandstands.”

So this year, fairgoers can watch Kutless, Blue Öyster Cult and Kip Moore as part of their regular admission price.

“People like coming to the fair, walking over to the grandstands and seeing a show for free,” Beriault said.

The Six to Sunset Thursday concert series will also be back at Esther Short Park starting in July, with performances by Curtis Salgado, Patrick Lamb and others.

And, while it’s still looking for a venue, Coovapalooza, a showcase for up-and-coming acts that raises funds for local schools, is moving forward for its second year with several acts including local groups One From Many and Foreign Talks.

“Last year was a fantastic show,” said Heidi Hahn-Troxler, who coordinates the event with her husband, Michael Troxler. “The bands were all really incredible.”

Attendance at the kickoff show last year was a bit low, probably because it rained, Hahn-Troxler said.

“This year we’re expecting it to be better,” she said.

A host of other shows are also in the works at local wineries, Esther Short Park and the Port of Camas-Washougal.
