Cheater! … cried the color commentator and the coach.
On Thursday, Toronto Blue Jays radio broadcaster Jack Morris accused Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz of underhanded tactics. And what was the alleged foul play? Morris believes that Buchholtz used a foreign substance on the baseball while dominating the Blue Jays the previous night.
“I didn’t see it during the game,” Morris said, according to ESPN Boston. “They showed it to me and said, ‘What do you think of this?’ and I said, ‘Well, he’s throwing a spitter. ‘Cause that’s what it is.”
Morris’s remarks came on the same day when the NBA fined Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson for “making public comments in an attempt to influence the officiating” during his club’s Western Conference playoff series against the Denver Nuggets. Essentially, Jackson openly complained about the Nuggets’ “dirty” deeds.
“Some dirty plays early,” Jackson told reporters. “It’s playoff basketball, that’s all right. We own it. But make no mistake about it, we went up 3-1 playing hard, physical, clean basketball — not trying to hurt anybody.”
