Talking Points: Spring results mean little

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

It’s Opening Day and right this moment, the Seattle Mariners are still in it.

As pointed out in an Associated Press story on Saturday, the Mariners hit two more homers in their final exhibition game to run their franchise spring training record to 58 home run in 33 games. The 58 homers is most in spring training since the Cubs hit 62 in 1999.

We won’t know until April 9th (and beyond) how Mariners batters will perform at Safeco Field with the new shorter outfield dimensions.

We do know how the 1999 Cubs finished: 67-95, last place NL Central.

Kevin Durant is still a fan of Seattle. Or so we think.

The Oklahoma City Thunder all-star dropped in on the NCAA women’s regional semifinal on Sunday in Oklahoma City sporting a Seattle Mariners baseball cap.

We all know that Durant’s NBA career started as a Seattle Supersonic so why can’t he also like the Mariners?

Give a thumbs up and a thumbs down to CBS on Sunday.

Thumbs up on the decision — after two initial replays — to NOT show anymore highlights of Louisville’s Kevin Ware breaking his leg.

Viewers really didn’t need an endless loop of the horrific on-court injury. Hey, when you have college players crying on the court during the game, that should be clue enough as to how bad it was.

And thumbs down for CBS cutting away from the Sony Open men’s tennis final just as Andy Murray and David Ferrer reached the third set tiebreaker to decide the match.

Yeah, we understand contractual obligations and all that. And it was only tennis vs. the tipoff of an NCAA regional final. But geez.
