What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
1
It’s the Thorpe family’s world, and we’re just living in it.
Tommy Thorpe, a former Evergreen Plainsmen standout, threw eight innings of shutout ball Friday night, leading the Oregon Ducks to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Huskies.
Oregon’s game started at 6 p.m., which was likely just before Evergreen’s game against Battle Ground went final.
In that game, current Evergreen standout Patrick Thorpe threw eight innings — with no earned runs — and picked up the win in a 3-2 victory over Battle Ground.
Together, the Thorpe brothers threw 16 innings and struck out 14 with no earned runs and two wins.

Zayd Issah, a Penn State football recruit, was arrested for passing counterfeit $20 bills at a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Apparently, restaurant employees got suspicious when they saw The Hamburgler in the back seat of Issah’s car.

Hey, it’s time for baseball previews. We ran a National League story in Friday’s paper. Today, you will see the American League feature. The plan is for a Mariners preview for Sunday’s paper.
Those articles are full of a lot of words and stuff about baseball and stats and such.
Or, you could just go to sportspickle.com. They have the season previews for each team in just a few words.
For example:
Baltimore Orioles: Hoping for back-to-back fluke seasons.
And, because we live in Mariner Country, here are the mottos for the AL West.
Houston Astros: We’re not going to lie. We’re going to suck. Hard.
Los Angeles Angels: Let’s hope money buys championships. Oh (darn). The Lakers. (Only they didn’t say darn.)
Texas Rangers: OK, we admit it. Josh Hamilton was kind of a (jerk.) (Only, they didn’t say jerk.)
Oakland Athletics: Tons of fun until the playoffs.
And our favorite …
Seattle Mariners: Hahahahahaha. Ichiro thought he would win a World Series with the Yankees.
