Everyone is invited to run with the First Congregational Church of Christ on Easter morning at Salmon Creek Park.
At 6 a.m., runners (and walkers) will begin in darkness, wearing headlamps or carrying flashlights. They’ll start out headed west from Klineline Pond. They’ll run along the Salmon Creek Greenway, turn around and head back toward the rising sun. The entire round-trip is six miles. A potluck of orange juice, buns, cinnamon rolls and other treats will greet the finishing runners.
The idea for this sunrise run came to Rev. Brooks Berndt as he reflected on Easter Week and its frequent re-enactments of the Jesus story. The idea struck him: Just as the original followers of Jesus ran back and forth to the tomb on Easter morning, members of First Congregational could run from darkness into the light.
“After the bleakness of Good Friday and Holy Saturday, I can think of nothing more fitting than to literally run from the darkness of night to the brightness of a new and glorious day,” Berndt said.
There is no fee for participation. All are welcome.
