The Washington State Citizens’ Commission on Salaries wants to hear from the public about proposed increases to some state elected officials’ pay. The commission will take public comment at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay, 100 Columbia St., in Vancouver.
The commission, created through a voter initiative in 1986, is responsible for setting the salaries of state elected officials, including legislators, members of the state’s executive branch, and state Supreme Court judges. The state constitution prevents the commission from reducing the pay of state elected officials.
The commission is not recommending raises for legislators or the governor, but it is recommending 2 percent pay increases this year for all state judges, the commissioner of public land, the insurance commissioner and the superintendent of public instruction.
