East Precinct — The caterpillar crawling across Doug Rickard’s face isn’t just any old caterpillar; it’s a cancer-fighting caterpillar. Rickard, a Vancouver police officer who patrols central and east-side neighborhoods from Father Blanchet Park to North Garrison Heights, has joined Moustache March, growing out the fuzz on his upper lip to raise pledges for the American Cancer Society.

“Most likely, I will look like a 50-year-old high school junior, trying to look older,” he quipped on his Moustache March Web page, which is where you can go to make a pledge and view the growing stache. Visit moustachemarch.com and follow the “people” link to “groups/events” and click on the American Cancer Society’s page to find Rickard and his furry friend.
