Hearthwood Neighborhood Association sends out call for members

Hearthwood — If it continues down its current path, the Hearthwood Neighborhood Association warns it might go the way of the dodo. Because of a lack of volunteers and meeting attendance, the latest Hearthwood Neighborhood Association newsletter points out the group is in danger of going extinct without more neighbor support. Neighborhood associations thrive or dwindle based around volunteers, who help with street cleanups, communicate with city officials and plan local gatherings. Last summer, the Hearthwood Neighborhood Association began meeting again after about five years of inactivity. The only requirements for a Vancouver Neighborhood Association to maintain an active status is that it has a board of elected officers and meets at least once per year, said Judi Bailey, Vancouver Neighborhoods Program manager. The next Hearthwood Neighborhood Association meeting is 6:30 p.m. on March 26 at the Cascade Park Community Library, 600 N.E. 136th Ave.
