Clark County — A “troubling but inspirational” movie will draw attention to the problem of people who disappear into mental institutions.
The nonprofit Arc of Southwest Washington and movie theater Cinetopia are teaming up for a free showing of “Where’s Molly?” The documentary was made by Jeff Daly, a TV producer who lived the story.
When Daly was six, his 3-year-old sister was sent away from the family’s Astoria home to live in an Oregon institution for the “feeble-minded”; he searched for her for nearly a half-century before tracking her down.
“Where’s Molly?” chronicles the challenges Daly overcame to reunite with Molly and make her part of his family. His efforts led to changes in Oregon law, making it easier for family members to find relatives who were institutionalized.
