Weight restrictions set on Bridge of the Gods

Federal and state officials placed new weight restrictions this week on the Bridge of the Gods near Stevenson and Cascade Locks, Ore.

Flaggers will alternate large trucks weighing up to 80,000 pounds traveling over the bridge. That means large trucks traveling in opposite directions won’t be allowed to cross the bridge at the same time, according to the Port of Cascade Locks, which is helping direct traffic.

Crews will control bridge traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. At other times, temporary weight restriction signs will limit trucks crossing the bridge to no more than 60,000 pounds, according to the port.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is conducting a weight and load study of the Columbia River Gorge bridge. A report is due this fall, when weight restrictions on the bridge will be re-evaluated.
