“Don’t let your luck run out,” says the Washington State Patrol.
Law enforcement agencies will deploy additional officers on local highways and byways this St. Patrick’s Day weekend to catch impaired drivers.
During the holiday last year, State Patrol troopers removed 26 impaired drivers from area roadways as part of the Washington’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries to zero by 2030, according to a news release from the State Patrol. The sheriff’s office recommends designating a sober driver, taking a taxi, calling a sober friend for a ride and taking an impaired friend’s keys this weekend.
Impaired driving is defined as driving while impaired by alcohol, under the influence of drugs or with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or above.
Officers from Battle Ground, Camas and Vancouver police departments, along with the Washington State Patrol and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will commit extra patrol hours today through Sunday to make the roadways safe, according to a news release.
