Brush Prairie — Washington students got a firsthand look at state lawmaking in early March as part of the Senate Page Program. Prairie High School sophomore Clara Mastin was one of 18 students from around the state to spend the eighth week of the 2013 legislative session working at the Capitol in Olympia. Sponsored by state Sen. Don Benton, from Vancouver, Mastin moved documents between offices, delivered mail and attended “page school,” where she joined other students in learning about the legislative process and parliamentary procedure.
“It was intimidating at first, but they really made me feel at home,” Mastin said in a press release.
