After suffering a 3-2 loss to Skyline Saturday, the Camas High School boys soccer team got right back to work Monday and earned a victory.
Austin Cassity delivered a goal and an assist, and Cameron Eyman and Riley Brannon also netted goals, to help the Papermakers defeat Prairie 5-0 at Doc Harris Stadium.
The Falcons knocked two balls into their own goal. It was a well-deserved win for Camas, who played without any substitutes.
The Papermakers faced a similar situation Saturday, and only had one eligible reserve available. Houston Taie scored the first two goals of the game for Camas, but then the boys started to get tired. Skyline rallied for three straight goals and snagged the victory.
Camas challenges Mountain View Friday, at McKenzie Stadium, in Vancouver. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
The Washougal High School boys soccer team competed shorthanded Monday, and lost 4-0 to Mountain View, at Fishback Stadium.
Goalkeeper Chase Duey collected at least a dozen saves. Yorro Bah, Nicholas Boylan and Toren Williams also stepped up the intensity on the backline.
“Those kids will get more confident as the season rolls along,” said head coach John Tyger. “Chase did a tremendous job for us in goal. I think he is going to be a great leader for us. I love the way he comes out with so much aggressiveness and authority. He is going to be a force to be reckoned with.”
Mountain View finished in fourth place at the 3A state tournament last season. Washougal will be tested again when it hosts Union Friday, at 7 p.m., and goes to La Center Saturday, at 2 p.m.
“It’s so much better to play teams who are really good up front so you can get your feet in the water and see what you have to work on,” Tyger said. “I’m excited to see how it all comes together for us in the next few weeks. I think we’re going to have a great season.”
