Three Fire District 6 firefighters represented Clark County in Sunday’s 22nd annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb held in Seattle to benefit the Washington/Alaska Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The 1,473 participating firefighters climbed the Columbia Tower’s 69 flights of stairs, or 788 feet of vertical elevation or 1,311 steps. They dressed in 50 pounds of bunker gear — a helmet, fireproof coat and pants, boots, a breathing apparatus and air tanks used to fight fires.
Nick McCarty, 26, placed 63rd with a time of 14 minutes, 57 seconds. Joshua Surenok, 35, climbed in 18 minutes, 38 seconds, earning 413th place. Jerret Kays, 23, took 757th place with 21 minutes, 21 seconds.
