Nothing says summer has arrived quite like a taste of a well-preserved duck egg.
At least that was the case for a few brave contestants on Saturday in downtown Vancouver, where about 150 men, women, and children took part in the Summer Solstice Amazing Scavenger Race.
Part competition, part block party, the race challenged participants — most of whom entered as teams — to complete physical and mental challenges along a course that included 15 stations and covered as many as eight miles.
This was the sixth year that Northwest Personal Training has marked the arrival of summer with a fun run.
But it was the first time that participants were asked to carry a couch up the street.
“We just wanted to do something a little bit different,” race organizer Sherri McMillan said, explaining that her staff wanted to make the event stand out in the crowd of fun runs on the calendar.
