Battle Ground is seeking help from the public identifying the people responsible for hacking up 60 trees during an apparent vandalism spree Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Battle Ground employees found the trees Wednesday.

Damage to six of the trees was so severe they had to be removed.

The city estimates the clean-up will cost about $3,000 and the toll could increase; some of the damaged trees may not survive. The city may not have enough money to fix the damage.

Of the 60 trees, 17 are in Kiwanis Park. Another 30 are along Rasmussen Boulevard, while eight were at Cresap Park and five along Main Street.

People with information about the vandalism are asked to contact Det. Joshua Phelps at 360-342-5242 or joshua.phelps@cityofbg.org. People may leave an anonymous tip at http://cityofbg.org/tips.
