For two weeks local law enforcement agencies added extra patrols to target motorists who were either speeding, unbuckled or using a cellphone while driving.
Agencies involved in the emphasis included the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol, and Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield and La Center police departments.
Between May 20 and June 2 these officers issued 202 speeding tickets, 137 seat belt violations and 88 citations for texting or talking on the phone.
Funding for overtime traffic patrols is provided by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission in support of Target Zero, which aims to reduce fatalities and serious injury crashes to zero by 2030.
