Two girls soccer teams from Vancouver are off to a strong start at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup tournament in Boise.
The Washington Timbers 98 Red in the under-14 division and FC Salmon Creek Nemesis in the under-13 division each won their first two games to lock up spots in the quarterfinals.
On Thursday, The Timbers 98 Red defeated the Utah Valley Blast 5-0. Taryn Ries scored two goals, and Ellie Walker, Alex Mann and Ashlyn Nelson scored one apiece. On Wednesday, the Timbers Red opened the round-robin stage of the tournament by beating Sereno 99 Girls Elte, 2-1. Walker scored both Timbers goals in that match. On Friday, the Timbers Red will play their final pool play match in the morning and a quarterfinal match in the afternoon.
The FC Salmon Creek Nemesis improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Southbank Excel of Arizona. Kiani Pandiano scored two goals and Maddie Kemp. The Nemesis wrap up pool play on Friday against Boise National Premier. The quarterfinal match for the Nemesis will be Saturday morning, with the semifinal on Saturday afternoon if they win in the quarterfinals.
