Clark County commissioners will wait a week before deciding what to do about partisan freeholders.
As approved by commissioners last week, an election for freeholder positions would require freeholder candidates to run by political party. But to have partisan positions, the commissioners have a choice: add a primary, which would cost additional money, or change the positions to nonpartisan and proceed directly to the November election.
The freeholders will be charged with reviewing the county’s charter and writing a custom charter that could be referred to voters. A new charter could increase the number of commissioners, and give voters more rights to petition and referendum.
At Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners elected to take a week to consider what they would like to do.
The commissioners’ next hearing is 10 a.m. June 18 at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.
