Bloodworth graduates from Concordia
Shelby Bloodworth of Camas graduated cum lade from Concordia University in Portland.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
CHS students earn honors in ‘Imagine Tomorrow’
On May 18, more than 20 high school students were honored with awards at the sixth annual Imagine Tomorrow competition at Washington State University, including two teams from Camas High School.
Imagine Tomorrow asks students in grades 9 through 12 to team up and develop solutions to the world’s energy problems. The competition attracted more than 500 students from three states to compete for more than $100,000 in cash prizes. Each team answers one of four challenges: behavior, biofuels, design or technology.
The behavior challenge team took home third-place, winning $500 for each student and $1,500 for their school. Team members are Corinne Bintz, Anna Roche and Meghal Sheth.
Another Camas High group won fourth place in the biofuels challenge and was awarded with $250 per student and $1,000 for the school. Team members are Maximilian Urbanek, Nick Langer, Ben Klave, Gabriel Lopes and Karina Orasud.
CHS theater receives several award nominations
Camas High School has received several nominations for its production of “Into the Woods,” in this year’s 5th Avenue Awards.
The awards are part of an annual ceremony presented by the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle to recognize outstanding achievement in musical theater from high schools all over Washington.
This year, the ceremony was held today. Results were not available by press deadlines.
CHS was nominated for outstanding overall musical, outstanding direction, outstanding music direction, outstanding scenic design, outstanding lighting design, outstanding stage crew, outstanding performance by an actor in a leading role (Micah Wise as Baker), outstanding performance by an ensemble group (The Princes), outstanding costume design (honorable mention), outstanding performance by an actor or actress a non-singing role (honorable mention, Celeste Linn as Milky White). Evaluators saw 105 productions in schools as far north as Lynden, south as Vancouver, east as Spokane, and west as Sequim.
Summer reading programs open registration
Both the Camas and Washougal libraries have summer reading programs available for all ages this summer.
In Camas, the program runs from Saturday, June 15 to Saturday, Aug. 10 and offers rewards and fun events to people of all ages.
