Summer horse racing is returning to Portland Meadows on July 21.

The 2013-14 race meet will cover 49 live race dates, pending Oregon Racing Commission approval, with racing on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons.

Racing will begin with a one day a week schedule before introducing a second live day in mid August. Live racing will continue through Jan. 26.

Post time in July through September will be 1:45 p.m. each race day. In October through January, post time will be noon.

Highlights of the meet will include Portland Mile Day on Labor Day, Sept. 2, and Oregon Championship Day on Nov. 17.

“By working with our partners in racing, and learning from last year and making a few adjustments we have built what we believe will be the groundwork for a strong and stable industry going forward,” said general manager Will Alempijevic.
