Weather Eye: Sitting in the sun, remembering the late-May drenching

Your neighbors report rainfall from May: I had 5.84 inches here in Salmon Creek; Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 10.15 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 6.89 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 10.54 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 4.07 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 5.31 inches; Merle Moore, west of Yacolt, 7.79 inches; Dave Campbell, west of Heisson, 6.15 inches; Barry Fitzthum, Amboy, 7.12 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 6.24 inches; Larry Lebsack, Northeast Hazel Dell, 5.23 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 10.52 inches; Nancy Ellifrit, Mount Vista, 5.50 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 7.95 inches; Ron Baldie, Fourth Plain Road and Northeast 144th, 5.94 inches; and Ellen Smart, Ridgefield 4.75 inches.

Bob Starr of Cougar has received nearly 50 inches so far in 2013, more than most of us receive all year!

All these amounts, though, look more like a fall or winter month than May. And it almost all came in the last half of the month!

Now, we are living for the summer sunshine. Saturday weather was as good as it gets, very comfortable temperatures, sun all day and a nice little breeze thrown in. Back in the day, KATU weatherman, Jim Bosely would have said, “I’ll give it a 10!”

Today will be sunny and warm but maybe a little cooler. The week looks to be much cloudier with highs of 65-72 degrees — near normal or a bit cooler. There is a chance of showers later in the week and into Father’s Day weekend.
