Two officers from the Washougal Police Department will be recognized June 10 for their efforts in resuscitating a clinically dead man.
Officers Dan McPherson and Jesse Layman will receive the Life-Saving Medal at a 7 p.m. ceremony before the start of a Washougal City Council meeting.
On May 6, McPherson and Layman responded to what’s known as an “automated external defibrillator” call, meaning someone needed immediate medical attention. When the officers arrived, they found a man unconscious and not breathing.
Both officers immediately jumped into action by performing CPR and deploying a defibrillator. Because of their swift actions, the 38-year-old man was revived prior to the arrival of the paramedics.
McPherson is a 6.5-year veteran of the department, while Layman recently passed the 1-year mark.
