A Camas resident is among the individuals improving the lives of dogs throughout the region.
As a volunteer for Fences for Fido, Ken Alwine has helped build more than 30 fences.
The mission of the 501(c) 3 non-profit organization is to improve the quality of life for dogs living outdoors by removing chains and building fences.
It also provides dog houses and offers spay/neuter and vaccination services.
“Fences for Fido is a great group of volunteers who love nothing more than to spend a few hours on the weekends, making life a little better for the dogs and families of our communities,” Alwine said. “The reward comes after about three hours of fence building, when we get to see the dog running and playing in a safe and secure yard — free from their chain, sometimes after years of being chained. All I can tell you is there is no feeling like it.”
