The perks in being the top-rated college football recruit can be endless… receiving the red-carpet treatment on campus visits, opening flowery love letters from coaches and apparently, getting to meet dead celebrities.

Da’Shawn Hand, a high school defensive lineman from Virginia, told CBSsports.com about the “craziest” thing that he’s heard during his ascension as the No. 1 recruit in America.

“Well, I ain’t gonna say any names, but one coach told me that since I’m the No. 1 player, I’m gonna get to meet Michael Jackson,” Hand told the website. “I said, ‘Isn’t he already dead?’ The coach goes, ‘Well, all right, you can meet Tito.’ “

Why stop at MJ? This unnamed coach should also promise recruits brunch with Benjamin Franklin and singing lessons from Sinatra.

Wisely, Hand dismissed this guy.

“I was like, ‘all right,’ ” Hand said. “OK, I’m done.”

Must be Homecoming Week.

Recently, the Kansas City Royals brought back their baseball legend George Brett as the new hitting coach. Now, the Washington Huskies have reached into the alumni network.

On Monday, Washington announced the return of former Husky great Damon Huard. According to a statement released by the school, Huard will become the Chief Administrative Officer for the football team. Huard, a three-year starting quarterback for the Huskies who threw for 5,886 yards, will continue providing color commentary during Washington radio broadcasts.
