Deputies arrested a Vancouver man about 1 a.m. Monday in Corbett, Ore., for allegedly traveling the wrong way on Interstate 84 while going more than 100 mph, and for eluding a police officer.
The initial 911 call at 12:37 a.m. said that a gray sedan without its lights on was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 at Exit 16 in Wood Village, Ore.
The driver continued on the interstate, allegedly traveling in excess of 100 mph for about nine miles until, at 12:44 a.m., Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ryan Biggs saw the vehicle exit I-84 at Rooster Rock State Park.
The sedan spun out on a grassy area in the park and the driver, later identified as Egor Vtorushin, 25, got out of the sedan, a 1989 BMW 525i. He initially complied with verbal commands from Biggs, but then fled on foot toward a wooded area, police said. Biggs caught up with Vtorushin and ordered him to the ground. The driver, again, complied with directions, but then ran away and tried to hide behind a tree.
