History lectures will be held at two local museums at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The “First Thursday” series continues at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St. Author Irene Martin will present “Canneries and Communities on the Columbia River.” Martin will discuss the history of the salmon canning industry on the Columbia River and how it affected surrounding communities. Clark County Historical Society members, military veterans and active-duty military families with ID get in free. Regular admission fees apply for others: $4 adults, $3 seniors/students, $2 children, $10 families.
The final archaeology lecture in Fort Vancouver’s summer series will be held at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St.
Bert Ho, an underwater specialist for the National Park Service’s Submerged Resources Center, will discuss recent research on sunken World War II aircraft from the Battle of Midway, the search for Captain Morgan’s shipwrecks in Panama, and a possible slave ship wreck in South Africa. The talk is free.
