North Salmon Creek — Elizabeth Kullberg, who lives at Northwest 149th Street and Fourth Court, really knows how to welcome a soldier home. Her family friend and nearby neighbor, Army veteran and reservist Dave Jensen, was unexpectedly deployed to Afghanistan about a year ago, she said, leaving behind a wife and two children. When she heard that Jensen will be coming home soon, she rounded up the neighbors on her street, and they decked out the whole area with yellow ribbons and other decorations. Jensen is already back in the States, but Kullberg isn’t exactly sure when he’ll return to the neighborhood, so she wanted to get the decorations up good and early. She added that Jensen is “not sentimental at all” and a “tough guy with a game face,” so her ulterior motive is to see him turn red and tear up.
