The Portland Winterhawks have added a second 20-year-old to their roster three weeks ahead of training camp for the 2013-14 season.

The Hawks acquired the rights to defenseman Garrett Haar from Medicine Hat on Monday for a conditional pick in the 2014 Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Haar played the past two seasons with Western Michigan University. The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Harr indicated via Twitter that he intends to sign with the Winterhawks. Haar was drafted 207th overall in 2011 by the Washington Capitals.

“Garrett is a promising defenseman who will bring size and experience to our defensive core,” Winterhawks general manager and coach Mike Johnston said.

The Winterhawks have room for one more 20-year-old player. Forward Shane McColgan, acquired this summer from Saskatoon, is 20.
