A funeral procession will be held tomorrow morning for Robert W. Hamel, 59, a member of Clark County Fire District 6 since 1990.

The procession starts 10 a.m. in downtown Vancouver at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, 302 W. 11th St. It will travel north up Main Street, which turns into Highway 99, and then heads east on Northeast 78th Street. The procession ends at Crossroads Community Church, 7708 N.E. 78th St., where an 11 a.m. service will be held.

Hamel died Thursday from cancer, which is considered a “line of duty” death by the district.

“Per Washington State Law, there are certain things being presumptive of that cause,” said David Taylor, the district’s assistant chief. “Over the course of a career, a firefighter may be exposed to a number of byproducts of combustion that are assumed to cause cancer.”
