Local golf: Docherty wins Oregon Public Links title

Alistair Docherty of Vancouver won the 16th Oregon Public Links Championship on Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Course in Cornelius, Ore.

Docherty is a Union High graduate who golfs for Chico State. He shot a 3-under-par 139 to win the 36-hole tournament by one stroke over Conner Barr of Beaverton. He shot 4-under 67 for the first round and 1-over 72 on Monday to hold off several contenders.

Nick Huff, a recent graduate of Hockinson High School, finished tied for seventh place, four strokes behind Docherty. Camas graduate David Patterson finished tied for 19th after shooting 8 over for the second round. Recent Hockinson graduate Jarred Gomez finished tied for 23rd.

An Oregon Golf Association event, the Public Links tournament is open to amateur golfers who are not members of private golf courses.

Kelsey Whiles of Brush Prairie tied for ninth place in the women’s tournament.

Browns share parent-child golf title

Rich Brown and Kirk Brown of Vancouver shared the championship of the 63rd OGA Parent-Child Chapman Championship, which concluded on July 21 at Salem Golf Club.

Shooting 8-under-par 64 on the second day, the Browns finished tied with Ashlee and Paul Pickerall of Salem.

Tyler and Nick Huff of Hockinson tied for third place at 6-under.

In the Chapman format both golfers hit a tee shot then hit their partner’s ball on the second shot before choosing one ball to play out the hole.

Playoff decides Our Three Moms tourney

The team of Casey Winkler, Matt Elertson, Trevor Harding and Jameson Stewart won the eighth Our Three Moms Golf Tournament on Saturday at Club Green Meadows.

The foursome shot 57 for the nine-hole scramble tournament then won a two-hole playoff over the team of Sparky McGrew, Bryce McGrew, Brad Johnson and Dan Westby. Third place went to the team of Jake Bond, John Bond, Isaac Bond and Jerry Bond.

The tournament raised $3,000 for the Our Three Moms Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarship money for graduates of Fort Vancouver and Hudson’s Bay High Schools.

This years scholarship recipients are Fort Vancouver graduates McKenzie Shirk who will be a freshman at Clark College ($3,000), Richard Vansiclen who will be a junior at the University of Washington ($500) and Kala Kloeber who will be a sophomore at Arizona State ($500).

Hudson’s Bay golf benefit set

A golf tournament to benefit the Hudson’s Bay High School Foundation will be held on Aug. 16 at Lakeview Par 3 Golf Course.

The best-ball tournament has a shotgun start at 4 p.m. Cost to play is $50 ($200 per foursome), which includes nine holes of golf, dinner and a drink.
