Talking Points: Father of the year?

Hunter Mahan might not have won this weekend’s Canadian Open, but we’ll go ahead and give him father of the year.

Even though he was leading, Mahan withdrew from the event when his wife went into labor with the couple’s first child.

The 31-year-old American was at 13 under after 36 holes and had yet to tee off in the third round Saturday.

One wonders, however, if Mahan would be so quick to his wife’s side if he were fighting for his tour card instead of being a fixture on the PGA.Now that would be dedication.

Those trend-setting Oregon Ducks are now passing on some fashion tips to their fans.

Known for their seemingly endless uniform combinations with accessories such as liquid metal helmets and blur cleats, the Ducks have issued a primer for appropriate game-day attire.

Heading to Autzen Stadium for the season opener against Nicholls State on Aug. 31? You’ll want to wear white. Hitting the road for the game at Stanford on Nov. 7? Yellow is your color.

To help out local fans who might not have the list committed to memory, Oregon will fly a flag at Autzen in each designated color during the week before the game.
