A tree that fell onto a power line and blew a transformer sparked a 1 1/2 -acre fire and left 6,008 utility customers without power in north Clark County. Power was restored later in the day.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. at Northeast 269th Street and Bennett Road. Firefighters with Clark County Fire & Rescue doused the fire and prevented it from spreading.

“Grass fires move notoriously fast,” Tim Dawdy of Clark County Fire & Rescue said. “Since they’re such light fuels, they go out quick, but they move fast.”

Battle Ground police helped direct traffic on Southwest Fifth Avenue and West Main Street in Battle Ground, where traffic lights were out.
