Tips from the public helped police identify and arrest a Washougal man in connection with a robbery Tuesday at a downtown Camas bank.
An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Christopher A. Arrington, 29, on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
Area law enforcement converged on downtown Camas Tuesday about 12:30 p.m. at US Bank, 430 N.E. Adams St., after a man approached a teller, implied he had a weapon and fled with cash in a green minivan. Police did not locate the suspect after an extensive search.
After local media published the details of the incident, along with surveillance photos, police received information from the public that identified Arrington as a possible suspect and that he may be in Portland, according to Camas police.
As police were trying to locate him, Arrington turned himself into the Multnomah County Jail at 5 p.m. Wednesday. He remains at the facility awaiting extradition to Clark County. An arrest warrant for first-degree robbery was issued by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office.
Detectives continued working on the case Wednesday night, executing a search warrant at Arrington’s Washougal residence and interviewing other people about the crime.
Camas Police Sgt. Scot Boyles said that the tips were a huge help.
“Without the people calling in, it would have taken us a lot longer,” he said.
The Washougal Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police Department and other agencies assisted in the investigation.
