We do not know if Chip Kelly reached out to Caleb Porter during the Timbers visit to the Philadelphia area.
But if so, we would have loved to have been a fly on the proverbial wall.
Porter is blazing the same path that Kelly is about to walk. Both were highly successful college coaches. Porter guided Akron to a national championship in soccer. Kelly led the Oregon Ducks to four consecutive BSC bowl games and within a whisker of a national championship.
Porter has turned the Timbers into one of the best teams in Major League Soccer, at least halfway through his first season.
We are not suggesting that the challenge of building a young soccer team into a contender is the same as turning the Eagles into a Super Bowl threat.
But we do believe Kelly would learn from Porter, and Porter from Kelly. These are two very smart, highly passionate coaches who would enjoy trading war stories.

A new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers is rising in Santa Clara, Calif., and some Seattle Seahawks fans are getting in on the action.
Seems that some of Seattle’s “12th Man” are raising money to purchase a brick in the “Fanwalk” at the future Levi’s Stadium.
Of course social media has played a part in this group raising more than $400 in two days, according to NFL.com. The bricks are priced between $195 and $545 depending on size and location.
But probably don’t count on finding a “Go Hawks” brick in the walk as the Levi’s Stadium Foundation reserves the right to reject any text.
