Two organizations hope to make back to school a little easier for Clark County’s needy students.

The 2013 North County School Readiness Day will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 16. Preregistration will be on Aug. 2 at the North County Community Food Bank, 17 N.E. Third Ave., or Battle Ground Adventist Community Services, at the rear of the Center Point Building, 11117 N.E. 189th St.

Eligible students must qualify for the free or reduced lunch program in order to participate.

The annual event provides students in need with free school supplies, immunizations, clothes and other resources to better prepare them for school.

Last year, more than 950 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to K-12 students attending the Battle Ground, Hockinson and Green Mountain School Districts.

Free immunizations for children 6 months to 18 years old will be provided by appointment only through Sea Mar Community Health Center from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 16 at Battle Ground High School. Interested people are asked to call 360-566-4410 or 360-566-4427 to preregister.
