A Clark County Public Works employee was shot in the hand by someone with a BB gun Thursday afternoon while directing traffic in south Hazel Dell.

At 12:25 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue and Northeast 63rd Street, where a flagger said three young men in their late teens or early 20s drove by her in a car, described as a dirty, white 1960s Mercury. The passenger shot a BB gun, striking the woman in her left hand, said Sgt. Fred Neiman. She was not otherwise injured.

Public works employees were using a tractor to cut brush along Hazel Dell Avenue and had the roadway reduced to one lane. Neiman said police are keeping an eye out for the vehicle, which has a license plate possibly containing the letters AEM.

If anyone knows the three suspects involved in this incident, they’re asked to call the Clark County Sheriff’s Office west precinct at 360-397-6079.
