Three Tacoma men appeared Thursday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of burglarizing a home near La Center and leading police on a chase Wednesday.
William R. Burns, aka “Ill Will,” 19, Jawuan T. Swift, 20, and Andre D. Lamar, 21, face charges of first-degree burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, first-degree theft and first-degree malicious mischief. Their arraignment is July 31.
Judge Suzan Clark held each suspect on $100,000 bail.
Burns is accused of burglarizing a residence in the 37500 block of N.E. Jenny Creek Road and shooting a pistol to try to break open a safe. One of the residents returned home and noticed a strange vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Impala, in her driveway. Two men were leaving the house, carrying her father’s shotgun, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in court. The two men hopped into the Impala, which was occupied by Swift, the alleged getaway driver, the affidavit says.
She followed the suspects as they drove toward La Center.
La Center police Officer Jerry Lester spotted the Impala in town and pursued them. The suspects ditched the car at a dead end and took off on foot, heading north across East Fourth Street and the parking lot of the New Phoenix cardroom, 105 W. Fourth St., police said.
