Well-known Vancouver commercial real estate broker Wally Hornberger, who was involved in a number of private and public Clark County real estate transactions, has died.

Hornberger, 85, died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday after an extensive battle with a respiratory illness. He will be remembered as a passionate businessman who never sought the limelight for his worthwhile contributions, said Bob Bernhardt, a Vancouver broker who worked with Hornberger since 1980 at the downtown Coldwell Banker Commercial real estate firm.

Bernhardt said Hornberger’s passing has created “a huge hole, not just for the company, but for the community.” Hornberger’s community service includes involvement and board service with the Vancouver Rotary Club, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia River Economic Development Council. He also served for 14 years on the Clark County Planning Commission.

Hornberger is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hornberger; his son, Marlow Hornberger; and his daughter, Marja Holmes. The family is planning a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
