Local teams had split results on the first day of the Little League major baseball state tournament on Saturday at Luke Jensen Park.
Ridgefield, the District 6 champion, won its opener 13-0 over District 13 and will play again at noon today against Federal Way.
District 4 champ Camas fell 5-4 in eight innings to West Seattle. Camas is next scheduled to play in a loser-out game at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The 13-team double-elimination tournament for ages 11-12 runs through July 21. It will determine the Washington representative in the Little League Northwest Regional at San Bernardino, Calif., on the way to the Little League World Series.
9-10 state baseball — Camas defeated Ridgefield 21-0 in the opening-round game at the state tournament in Oak Harbor.
Zachariah Shaw was the winning pitcher and hit a home run for Camas. Teammate Jake Blair was 4 for 4 with six RBI.
Camas, the District 4 champion, will face Bainbridge at 3 p.m. today. Ridgefield, the District 6 champ, plays Riverview in a loser-out game at 10 a.m. today.
The double-elimination tournament runs through July 20 (21st, if a second championship game is needed).
Senior (15-16) state baseball — District 4 champion Columbia won its opening game, 6-5 over Richmond at Cascade Little League at the Harmony Sports Complex.
Columbia moves on to play South Kitsap at 1 p.m. today in the seven-team, double-elimination tournament.
Hazel Dell plays its first game at 10 a.m. today against Sky Valley.
The tournament runs through Thursday.
9-10 state softball — Local teams Battle Ground and Columbia Little Leagues suffered losses on the first day of the state tournament at La Center Community Park.
Battle Ground lost its opener 13-3, while Columbia fell 13-0.
Both teams will play again at 4 p.m. today in loser-out games of the 10-team double-elimination tournament.
The tournament runs through July 20.
Junior (13-14) state softball — District 4 champ Cascade beat District 6 champ Lewis River 10-4 in the opening game at Valley Ridge in Seattle on Saturday.
Cascade advances to face Mill Creek at noon today. Lewis River will play a loser-out game at 1 p.m.
This tournament runs through Thursday (or Friday if a second championship game is necessary).
