A Vancouver woman was injured in an early Saturday morning crash that resulted in a drunken driving investigation against her.

The accident occurred at 5:48 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5 just south of Northeast 99th Street.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Diana M. Niemann, 30, of Vancouver was driving northbound when she fell asleep at the wheel of her 2007 Ford Escape.

The Ford went off the roadway onto the right shoulder, striking a chain-link fence and a cinder-block wall.

Niemann received first aid at the scene from some passing Civil Air Patrol members, and also from emergency responders, before she was taken to a hospital for treatment.

She was under investigation for second-degree negligent driving and DUI.
