Youth ball: Babe Ruth 13s district tournament under way at Louis Bloch

Hazel Dell Metro and Longview posted wins on Thursday to open the Babe Ruth Baseball district tournament for 13-year-olds at Louis Bloch Park in Camas.

Metro beat Kelso 10-6 and Longview beat Camas-Washougal 15-7.

Today, Camas-Washougal and Kelso play a loser-out game at 5 p.m., and Metro plays KWRL at 7:30 p.m. in a semifinal game. KWRL represents Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield and La Center.

The top two teams from this tournament advance to the Southern Washington tournament.

Admission costs $2.

Little League

Intermediate baseball — Pacwest won the first 50/70 state championship, beating Evergreen 14-11 just before curtfew at Salmon Creek Little League on Thursday.

Evergreen, the District 4 representative, won 6-4 to force a second championship game.

Big League — Cascade Little League’s Big League team, ages 16-18, won the state title on Tuesday and will be making the trip to Bremerton for the regional tournament, which begins on Monday.

Cascade, the District 4 representative, defeated District 1 4-0 in the title game of the state tournament.

Major (11-12) state — Luke Jensen Park will be hosting the state tournament beginning on Saturday.

District 6 opens play at 1:30 p.m., and District 4’s first game is at 4:30 p.m.

The tournament runs through July 21.
