Governor names Wecker, Kehoe to Fish and Wildlife Commission

OLYMPIA — The executive director of the Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association has been appointed to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Gov. Jay Inslee has appointed Robert Kehoe of Seattle to a vacant at-large position for a term through 2014 and reappointed Miranda Wecker of Naselle to a term running through 2018.

Wecker has served on the nine-member citizen commission since 2005 and has been chair since 2008. She is director of the Marine Program at the University of Washington Olympic Natural Resources Center.

Kehoe, an attorney, joined the purse seine association as general counsel in 1997 and became executive director in 2009. He has served as a commercial fishing industry representative on the Pacific Salmon Commission since 2001.

Nominations sought by July 31 for state waterfowl committee

OLYMPIA — Nominations are being sought through July 31 for positions on the state’s Waterfowl Advisory Group.

Phil Anderson, director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife, will appoint 15 members to advise the agency on hunting regulations, hunter-access programs and state duck stamp projects.

Members will serve three-year terms. Current members are encouraged to reapply.

Nominations must include:

o The nominee’s name, address, telephone number and email address.

o Relevant experience and reasons for wanting to serve on the group.

o The nominee’s effectiveness in communication.

o The name and contact information for any individual or organization submitting a nomination.

Oregon sets session to discuss Willamette sturgeon sanctuary

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — A public meeting to discuss sturgeon fishing in Oregon’s Willamette River will begin at 6:30 tonight at the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s office at 17330 S.E. Evelyn St., Building 16.

The major agenda item will be a proposal to expanded the sanctuary at Oregon City to help protect oversize sturgeon.

New map, visitor guide available for Mounts Rainier, St. Helens

TACOMA — A visit to Washington two best-known mountains will be a little easier with a new map and visitor guide produced by a tourism organization.

Visit Rainier is offering a “Two Mountain Vacation” to assist travelers who want to visit both Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens.

The map is a collaborative effort between Visit Rainier and Cowlitz County Tourism. It offers a general map of the region, including the location of information centers, public rest rooms and photo opportunities.

The map can be downloaded as a PDF at www.visitrainier.com.

The guide also provides information on three loops:

Grand Tour: This 302-mile tour takes visitors through the national park and national volcanic monument. The guide recommends taking four days and three nights to complete the trip.

Visitor center tour: This is a 200-mile loop that will take visitors to six visitor centers. It is a recommended two-day, one-night adventure.

Nature’s wild side: This is a 216-mile trip that provides an opportunity to see the region’s wildlife and plant life. It, too, is a two-day, one-night trip.
