It will be a history-enhanced evening, with three public lectures today that reflect different aspects of local and regional history.
• Alisha Hamel will discuss “Oregon and Washington in World War II” at 7 p.m. at the 40 et 8’s Boxcar Room, 7607 N.E. 26th Ave., just off 78th Street in Hazel Dell. She will discuss how the West Coast prepared for a Japanese attack, and the role of the Army National Guard’s 41st Infantry Division, known as the Sunset Division. The free event is part of the Vancouver Barracks Military Association’s monthly lecture series.
• Bill Roulette will discuss an archaeological investigation at the Vancouver Kaiser Shipyard at 7 p.m. at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St. The unusual findings resulted from an environmental remediation project at the Kaiser shipyard. Monitoring the excavation of a landfill, combined with analysis of artifacts and historical research, offered insights into the lives of shipyard workers. It is part of the free summer Fort Vancouver archaeology lecture series.
• University of Washington professor Michael Honey will discuss labor and civil rights at 7 p.m. at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1115 Main St. It’s part of the opening of a new museum exhibit, “Labor: A Working History.” Admission: $4 adults; $3 seniors/students; $2 children; $10 families. Free for Historical Society members; military veterans; active-duty military families with ID.
