An open house Thursday will look at alternative proposals to the Columbia River Crossing, the failed megaproject now in the process of shutting down.
The free event, organized by the nonprofit Economic Transportation Alliance/Third Bridge Now, begins at 4:30 p.m. in The Academy building, 400 E. Evergreen Blvd. in Vancouver. The gathering is scheduled to continue until 9:00 p.m., and will include information, raffles and live music, according to organizers.
The $3.4 billion CRC would have replaced the Interstate 5 Bridge and extended light rail into Vancouver while rebuilding freeway interchanges on both sides of the Columbia River. But the governors of Washington and Oregon recently pulled the plug on the beleaguered project after Washington lawmakers failed to commit funding this year. Some opponents of the CRC have called for a third bridge across the Columbia River or other smaller fixes as alternatives to the CRC.
