Opportunities to inspire

One generation inspiring another.

This theme is weaved throughout the pages of today’s Post-Record.

A World War II and Korean War veteran going out of his way to share his story and American history with Washougal High School students. The First Friday car show that brought car aficionados of all ages together to share their expertise with each other, and pass a love for the classics on to others. A father and his teenage son who have traveled to Omaha, Neb., to participate in the Senior U.S. Open — the chance of a lifetime. The owner of a cutting edge design and invention business who wants to give back to his community and the next generation of innovators through an internship program.

As all of these stories illustrate, opportunities for one generation to have a positive influence on another are available all around us. In our communities, in our homes, in our schools, in the workplace.

Those who have lived and “been there, done that,” can be a wealth of historical knowledge, life experiences and lessons learned. And, what is often forgotten is that youngsters can be “teachers” as well. They live in the moment, don’t harbor resentment about the past, take joy in even the smallest of accomplishments and truly appreciate all of little treasures that the world has to offer.

Put all of these abilities and attributes together, and what you have is a collection of opportunities to learn from the past while also appreciating all that life has to offer in the here and now.
