SPOKANE — An event is planned this month in Spokane to celebrate the life of former House Speaker Tom Foley.
The event is July 24 at the Bing Crosby Theater. It starts at 5:30 p.m.
Organizer Rich Cowan says Foley is in declining health and his friends want this to be a living tribute to the statesman.
Cowan says Foley did a lot for Eastern Washington during his three decades in Congress.
Foley was born in Spokane in 1929, and elected to Congress in 1965. He became the 57th Speaker in 1989 and served in that capacity until 1995.
