Vancouver man seriously injured in hit-and-run crash near Tillamook, Ore.

Police are searching for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a Vancouver man Sunday afternoon on Highway 6 east of Tillamook, Ore.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, 20 miles east of Tillamook.

Several cars traveling east had slowed or stopped near Milepost 20 for a white Suburban sports utility vehicle that was taking a left turn. Grant A. Timperly, 32, of Vancouver was riding a 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle when he slowed for the traffic and was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle.

The impact pushed Timperly’s motorcycle about 50 feet and into the back of a Toyota Camry, driven by Ronald E. Dove, 77, of Milwaukie.

Timperly was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, where he was listed in serious condition Monday. He was wearing a helmet. Dove was not injured.

The vehicle that struck Timperly fled the scene traveling east. Witnesses were not able to provide a description of the vehicle aside from indicating it may have been towing a trailer and that the vehicle likely has heavy front-end damage, police said.

Oregon State Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver. Anyone with information to help identify the vehicle and driver is asked to call the Police Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888.
